When Jimmie Foxx first came up to the big leagues in 1925 he was primarily a catcher. Recognizing his immense potential as a hitter and understanding that the daily rigors of catching took an effect on players, Connie Mack started the process of switching him to other positions. He was still available to Mack as a backup though and occasionally he would fill in during an emergency. The last of these instances from his prime was 1928 with this photograph illustrating his abilities better than any other we have seen. A silver gelatin beauty, this is stamped on the back by Underwood and Underwood and issued through the American League Service Bureau. Condition and quality are both essentially perfect and this is one of his better images we have handled.
