After a big season in 1929 Al Simmons was demanding a raise. He skipped pre-season workouts, never reported for spring training and as of the morning of opening day he was still unsigned. He got together with Connie Mack right before the start of the game however and got a deal done. His response was to hit a dramatic home run to beat the Yankees. The offered sweeping horizontal photograph shows Simmons touching home plate after belting his circuit clout, issued by the International News and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well (separated but present). A spectacular image in great shape.
