Touching and powerful image taken about 1912 of a family in New York City working around the dinner table. The father is at the far left looking dejected that his wife and children are all being forced to labor out of the house while the dinner table doubles as a work station with six people working while a small child clings to his mother. With so much going on, this is a work of art that could have an entire book written about the symbolism and nuances of the image. A completely original silver gelatin contact print, the image presents well with a scratch on the negative responsible for the line at the right side.
