1929 Photograph of the Muldoon-Tunney Trophy being unveiled in New York symbolic of the Heavyweight Champion of the World. At the event, former champions were invited to participate in the festivities and among the most notable, right next to the trophy, we find Jack Johnson, controversial early black champion who had been jailed and exiled due to hatred over his race. It appears he was starting to be allowed back in the fold by 1929 however and this photo proves it! Among others in the photo are Jack Dempsey! A large crystal clear image that we have never seen before, this is from the archives of Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well. An important piece of Jack Johnson photography, especially when placed in the timeline of his life.
