Today the World Series is a fantastic spectacle full of fanfare and ceremony, but back in 1903 when the first one was held, this is what you got; a rickety dugout that looked like it would collapse on you! This photo captures the Boston Red Sox at the Huntington Avenue Grounds in Boston for the first ever World Series as they ready for the game. The dugout roof is sagging, but it provides just enough shelter from the rabid fans, while the bats for the players lay open on the dirt. This is an incredibly important piece of photography that was made in the 1910's (silver gelatin and early paper stock) and represents one of the only images from the first World Series we have ever seen in any form. Condition and quality are both outstanding! )Note, this is not the original example that was originally housed in the Boston Public Library and the stamp is embedded in the negative.
