In the earliest days of the 20th century, explorers were the rock stars of the world. Before airplanes, drones, satellites and other technology, it was impossible to know what was out there unless you went to look for it. As such, the unknown created interest and the thought of exploring it was what dreams were made of. Enter Ernest Shackleton, the famous explorer who led a group to document the South Pole. His expedition was front page headlines, especially when his ship sunk and they were stranded on floating ice thousands of miles from help. Here the group is seen shortly after the tragedy struck and before he was rescued. Issued by Underwood and Underwood, this is one of the only originals from this seminal event we have ever seen and the quality is outstanding. From the archives of Underwood and Underwood with handwritten notes on the back.
