In the earliest days of basketball, it was a rough game dominated by team play with few individual stars rising above the rest to make a name for themselves. The first "superstar" basketball player in fact was Harlan "Pate" Page of the University of Chicago who so dominated the sport that he even overshadowed himself on the football field (where he was All American). Page became a longtime coach but it is for his work on the basketball court that got him enshrined into the basketball Hall of Fame! A large and bold portrait photograph taken in the 1920's of Page, this was issued by Underwood and Underwood and stamped on the back. One of hi best photographs for sure!
