Original c. 1908 photograph of Oberlin College baseball players participating in some type "Old Timers Game" in uniform. A couple of things make this photo special and potentially ground breaking. First, the catcher is a large black athlete as clearly evidenced by his exposed hands and dark skin visible through his mask. The only black old time ballplayer from Oberlin was the star from about twenty years later, Moses Fleetwood Walker of major league fame. While more research is necessary, it is our believe that this photo does indeed picture Walker in uniform. Taken about the time he was finding himself and writing for newspapers and his own thesis, it would make sense he would be hanging around the intellectuals from his former school at Oberlin. Pulled from an Oberlin photo-album and offered here for the first time ever!
