One of the most famous moments in baseball history took place on June 13, 1948 when a sick and ailing Babe Ruth put on a Yankee uniform and using a bat for a walking stick, hobbled to home plate to say goodbye to the game he loved. There are several different angles of this image that have become famous, even iconic, but this example taken from a bit higher of an angle, is the first we have ever seen. Stamped on the back by the New York Yankees official photographer Bob Olen, the image captures Ruth the moment he waved his hat to the crowd (a famous shot of this taken from the front is popular among collectors). An important side note is that the group of photographers seen to the left includes somewhere in the group, Nat Fein who would take the famous shot of Ruth from behind just a few moments later on this evening. Condition and quality are both outstanding and this is the only vintage example of this photograph we have ever seen!
