1938 Interesting photograph of Joe Louis and Mex Schmeling from the contract signing of their rematch. Schmeling had become the first man to beat Louis a few years earlier, and although he was the champ, nobody really thought he would win the rematch, not even himself. It is impossible to know what Max was saying here, but I bet he was letting Joe know that it was his time to get the title back! Although rivals who would always be linked together, Louis and Schmeling were actually good friends until Louis passed away. A fine image in great shape.
