Important 1947 photograph of young baseball player Jackie Robinson as he is set to break the baseball color barrier. Taken by noted photographer Arthur Sasse, the image is beautiful but the long and detailed paper caption is the star of the show with quotes about prejudice that seem to be both prophetic and progressive for the time. "For now Jackie Robinson is a diving symbol of the defeat of prejudice. When he was signed up and put into the uniform of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Jackie crashed an invisible, but powerful barrier that had up to then kept any member of his race, no matter how skillful he might be, from performing on a major league team. With Robinson's first appearance as a member of the Dodgers at Ebbets Field, that barrier no longer exists. So, whether Jackie Robinson makes good on the major league diamond or not, his place on the record books is safe. He was the instrument through which the American's love of fair play and hatred of prejudice were used to smash down a barrier that never should have been erected." Simply amazing!
