1945 Photograph of the wreckage and debris littering the beach of Iwo Jima during the epic battle. Of particular importance here is a large war dog sniffing around and posed at center of the image being the obvious focal point for the photographer. The dogs of Iwo Jima are well documented as soldiers used them to sniff out fox holes etc., but this is the only photograph showing one in action we have ever seen. A fine image from the scrapbook of a soldier who served in the battle.
