Arky Vaughan was a prodigy at a young age and before he ever played a game in the minor leagues, he was invited to spring training with the depleted Pittsburgh Pirates for a shot at the team. He did not make it and was shipped to Wichita for one season before actually making the major leagues in 1932. The offered photograph is the ONLY image of Vaughan in Pirates uniform from spring training in 1931 we have ever seen and it shows him in uniform posing with the other infielders who were trying to make the team! Issued by Acme and stamped on the back with a full paper caption, this pre-dates his rookie card by two full years!
