Willie Keeler is one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He personified the 1890's through his hard nosed style of play and small ball tactics that led to his famous quote of "Hit em where they aint" and inside baseball that is still talked about today. When this iconic photograph was shot in 1906, Keeler was a legend in his own time and even with sports photography in its infancy, the men behind the lens just had to have an image of Keeler laying down one of his famous bunts. Here he is demonstrating the technique in uniform with his catcher Red Kleinow helping out the photo op. Keeler has his eyes glued on the ball and the bat is just about to make contact. He is perfectly square and his form is right on the money. An absolute work of early baseball art, this is one of the most famous images of the era, with only a few others more famous. Considering the age of this image and the quality, this is one of the finest deadball era baseball photographs we have ever had the pleasure of handling. Stamped on the back by the photographer and with a few really light corner creases, this is something we are extremely excited to offer!
