After the Chicago Black Sox scandal of 1920, baseball needed a tough boss to step in and regain control of the national pastime. The man was Kennesaw Mountain Landis and while he was hated by many and his methods were gruff, he got the job done and set the precedent for tough leadership in professional sports forever. In this incredibly important photograph we see Landis seated in a position of authority as he was sitting at his desk as he was named the most powerful man in baseball. Issued by the International News and stamped on the back, the photo has a detailed paper caption added later that describes the event. The men in the background represent a who's who of baseball during the deadball era as Barney Dreyfuss, Charles Ebbets, Jacob Ruppert and Connie Mack are all present for the event. Noticeably absent however, was Charles Comiskey the White Sox owner whose team had just been decimated by Landis in a gambling scandal. One of the most important moments in baseball history and one that we have never seen before in original form... until now!
