Bernice Gera decided in 1967 that she wanted to take the game she loved and make it her profession. With the backing of her husband she enrolled in umpire school and did very well, but was denied membership into NABL due to her gender! Instead of taking it, she fought it and sued finally winning in court in 1972. She was permitted to umpire in the minor leagues (which she did) but the other umpires refused to cooperate and made her life a living hell, so she walked away. The offered photograph from 1971 was taken by photographer Vincent Riehl and with a large paper caption on the back, this is a unique new discovery being offered here for the first time ever. An interesting side note to the game of baseball, this is an important image in perfect 10/10 condition.
