One of the most famous photographs ever taken is the Nat Fein "Babe Bows Out" photograph of the greatest sports star of all time making his final appearance in front of his fans. The photograph has been celebrated for half a century as poignant and dramatic for the subject matter but also for the foresight of Fein who thought stand BEHIND Ruth for a more dramatic feel. If you look closely at that image, you will find a handful of other photographers standing in a more traditional spot in front of Ruth taking the same picture from a different angle. Ironically in trying to get the better shot, they are now footnotes to history. One of those men took this shot, moments before Ruth stepped away from the microphone to pose for images. In fact, in the Nat Fein image you can see the other boys reloading their cameras, probably from taking THIS photo! Crystal clear and off the original negative for sure, this is a completely vintage 1948 specimen that is a slam dunk "Vintage 1" or "Type 1" piece of history and the only such example of this photograph that we have ever seen in decades of collecting vintage photography! Despite some light handling wear, the image presents beautifully and is one of the more important pieces of baseball photography we have offered!
