On May 4, 1966 Willie Mays blasted his 512th career home run off Claude Osteen of the Dodgers. While he was still over two hundred behind Babe Ruth, he was the new all time career home run leader in the National League as he passed Mel Ott. Here he is seen tipping his cap to the gracious crowd who knows they just witnessed history and gave him a five minute standing ovation! A potentially unique image from the San Francisco Examiner and offered here for the first time ever! While the condition of the photo is quite nice, it does have some corner creasing and a staple hole as well as some discolored tape from publication.
