Today, playing for the New York Yankees is a dream of millions, even those already in the major leagues. In the 1910's it was just a team like anywhere else and sometimes sandlot guys with no professional experience would be asked to show up for a try-out with the team. Enter this young man who is posed prominently with a Yankees cap and identified as a player for the team on the back named "B. Geiser". He never made the team, never made the majors, and according to our research, never even played in the minor leagues unless he was using an assumed name. While some may look at this image and find it weird, we find the obscurity as a telling sign of the times in baseball and a cool story about how far the Yankees franchise has come over the last 100 years! UPDATE Through the work of one of our bidders, we have found information about who this player is and the story is pretty darn cool! Apparently his name was Benny Geiser and was the champion batter of the WWI shipyard leagues (filled with major leaguers) and was snatched up by the Yankees. We have added a newspaper article and hope this will help to solve the puzzle of this hot prospect who never played a game of professional baseball!
