Long before he was "Gene Tunney, Heavyweight Champion of the World", he was a fighter for the U.S. Marine Corps hoping to make a name for himself in a rough sport. The offered image by Halls Studio in New York captures Tunney still fighting for Uncle Sam exhibiting the exuberance of youth as he stands excited to get his picture taken. Embossed double weight silver gelatin photograph has the Halls Studio Hallmark at the bottom center and ranks among the greatest Tunney images ever offered and despite the crease on the right side it displays pretty nice. This photo also bears a VERY early ink handwritten identification on the top that looks like an early example of his signature!
