Incredible 1934 photograph of Hall of Famer Charlie Gehringer working at his gas station in Detroit just before the start of the World Series. Today athletes are pampered millionaires whose only job is getting better at their craft. Back in the day, guys like Gehringer worked jobs in the off season to make ends meet and in his case, he owned a small station in Detroit and to save money on labor, he worked his own pumps! Issued by the International News and stamped on the back with a paper caption.
