Swede Risberg is remembered almost exclusively for his role in the 1919 Black Sox Gambling Scandal in which he was kicked out of Baseball with seven of his teammates for throwing the World Series. When this image was taken in 1917 he was a young rookie on a team that would WIN the World Series! A slick fielding shortstop who didn't hit much, Risberg was the defensive stalwart up the middle that enabled Joe Jackson and company to do their thing at the plate. Rare image from 1917 is the one of only a few photographs of Risberg from his Rookie year we have ever seen. Condition is nice and this is a large silver gelatin photograph with NEA Stamp on the back. Is that Joe Jackson coming up to the plate behind him? Sure looks like him!
