Unfortunately the history of the Negro leagues and all early professional black teams is very clouded and incomplete. If this were not the case we could tell you exactly the team this player was working for and all about the stats of the man pictured. But life is not fair! The offered image pictures an obviously professional black baseball player from c. 1912-15 wearing a uniform for the "Dayton Cubs". We believe this might be end early version of the Dayton Marcos of the Negro Leagues but can not confirm this. The player is identified on the back but this was done years later in ballpoint pen and may or may not be correct, but he is listed as "Herbert Henry." The image is without a doubt one of the earliest black professional baseball players we have ever handled. Silver gelatin photograph is in nice condition overall with a crease on the lower left corner.
