Large 1938 studio photograph of "Rawhide" movie star Lou Gehrig, the legendary first baseman of the New York Yankees as he tried to set himself up for a career after baseball by shifting to the movies. Gehrig had no way of knowing there would be no career after baseball as he was already dying of ALS when this photo was taken. We have seen promotional photographs of Gehrig from Rawhide before but this is one of the largest portraits from the film we have ever handled.
