Before he became one of the most iconic generals in American history, George S. Patton was a serviceable veteran with big ambitions. He was chosen to lead the attack on Europe and especially in the north African desert. To train for such an undertaking, he established the Desert Training Center in California. Here is Patton from early in WWII (1942) as he poses with dignitaries in California including Jimmy Doolittle! Patton was preparing for his encounters in battle with Rommel and for victory. Taken by a local photographer and stamped on the back (George Watson) this is an absolute beauty and it ranks among the most important images of Patton we have ever seen!
