An important and well known photograph from the opening of Yankee Stadium (April 16, 1923) showing the opposing managers gathered around Yankees owner Jacob Ruppert for some pre-game festivities. The most fantastic ballpark in baseball history was being dedicated and despite the fanfare and bunting, a game still had to be played. Miller Huggins from the Yankees was confident his team would win, but standing in his way on this historic afternoon was Frank Chance and his Boston Red Sox. A mere matter of minutes before Yankee Stadium would be officially opened, this photo was snapped by a photographer from Underwood and Underwood and it has lived on as perhaps the most well known of all the images taken on this historic day. Offered here in nice condition overall (some light handling wear and a crease at the top along with a small corner ship at the bottom right) and with a full paper caption on the back, it is a rare survivor from an important moment in American history. This is a fine example of the handful of known to exist.
