The earliest image of Floyd "Babe" Herman we have ever seen, dating to 1922 when he was a 19 year old kid trying to make the Detroit Tigers squad. He would be sent to the minor leagues where he would toil for another 4 years before finally being called up to the majors. He would quickly establish himself as one of the greatest hitters of his generation... if only he could have been a decent fielder he might be in the Hall of Fame! Taken by noted Detroit photographer William Kuenzel, the image is very nice and large with some mild creasing, a spot of damage by his foot and a few pinholes at the corners. BY FAR the earliest image of Babe Herman we know of anywhere! This photo originally sold for $546 in our November 2014 auction!
