With action photography in its infancy in 1913 it is hard to imagine that circumstance and opportunity would collide in such a way to make an image like this possible! Eddie Plank the ace of the Philadelphia Athletics is seen a moment after delivering the last pitch of the World Series, beating Christy Mathewson and the Giants in the fifth game. Issued by Underwood and Underwood and with a full paper caption on the back that clearly illustrates the importance of the image, this is the earliest photograph of its kind we have ever seen and it presents here in essentially perfect condition as well. To simply describe this as an "important photo" does not do it justice. All things considered, this is one of the most significant deadball era World Series images ever taken!
