The 1944 Pirates had a lot to be proud of. They were a last place team a few years earlier and had risen all the way to 90 wins and a second place finish. It had to seem like they were destined to take the next step as a franchise, but in fact this would be the high water mark for the Pirates of the 1940's. At least about 15 years later they would have a lot to celebrate! Clear and bold, this was issued by the Sporting News and presents well with a few light corner creases. Hey, that's Honus Wagner at the center of this image!
