In 1933 the Chicago Tribune and Arch Ward decided it would be cool to get the best players in baseball together for an "All Star Game" as part of the festivities surrounding the World's Fair. The idea was such a success that a game has been scheduled ever since and has become part of the fabric of sports culture. In that inaugural game, the American League got all the headlines with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig leading the way. As such, images of the American League squad outnumber the National League counterparts at least 3 to 1. Here is the N.L. team in full uniform and posing at the ballpark moments before history was made. Issued by Acme, they have placed a number next to each player and the caption on the back identifies the player for publication. Completely original and in great shape, this is a rarity that seldom comes up for sale.
