Great action shot taken on his first day at spring training with the New York Giants. Incredible candid shot of a smiling Thorpe, one would hardly know from the look on his face what he had endured since the time in Stockholm when he won both the pentathlon and decathlon at the 1912 Olympic Games and subsequently had his Gold Medals stripped by the IOC. Unquestionably, Thorpe was the greatest athlete of the first half of the 20th Century. Thorpe is shown covering first base donning his new Giants jersey. Images of this quality of Jim Thorpe are incredibly hard to find. Great International News Service stamp on back with 1922 file stamps but the image is without question from many years prior to these file stamps. Condition is very nice with only the most minor of handling wear evident.
