Monte Irvin is one of the most underrated early stars in the integrated era of baseball. Originally tagged to be the first to break the color barrier (the honor instead went to Jackie Robinson), Irvin more than lived up to his reputation by becoming one of the best players in the game. Here he was honored at the ballpark with a new car and several other gifts, but then he had to go back to a segregated world that treated him like a second class citizen. A crystal clear image in great shape, this was issued by Acme and stamped on the back with a full paper caption as well.
