Incredible 1949 photograph from inside the New York Giants locker room in which Negro Leaguer Hank Thompson (who made his debut with the Giants the week before) was joined by their latest addition, fellow Negro League star Monte Irvin. Taken on the day Irvin reported and made his major league debut, this is the only photograph from this event that we have ever seen in any form and it carries a file stamp from Jul 9, 1949 (the day after his pinch hit appearance debut). An incredible piece of history from one of the games most important black pioneers!
