Large 1950 action photograph of young pitching sensation Joe Black in uniform with the Cienfuegos club of the Cuban winter league. He was one of the greatest pitchers of his era but the combination of WWII and the color barrier at the height of his career made it so that we can only wonder how good he could have been. He finally made it to the major leagues in 1952 where he won 15 games and became the first black pitcher to win a World Series game as well. The offered image is a fantastic and clear original that pre-dates his rookie cards and remains the finest image of Black we have seen offered publicly.
