Jackie Robinson integrated the game of baseball in 1947, but each team had to have their own "Jackie" and for the Washington Senators, it was Carlos Paula in 1953 as he became the first black player to appear in uniform for the franchise. Pictured here in 1949 for the Almendares club, Paula had to be dreaming of possibly getting a shot one day, but probably disappointed that it took seven years after Robinson! This is the only original image of Paula we have seen and it presents beautifully!
