In 1927 baseball got back to some basics of photography. Years earlier photographers had focused on eyes, hand grips, batting stances, pitching arms, and the intricate details of the game. As sluggers took over, many of these photos disappeared from the game as well, but 1927 changed that. Photographers started again to focus on the small artistic details and created some of the most sought after images in the history of the game. While Charles Conlon was not the first, his images of eyes and feet from the 1927 World Series are legendary. Here we see a similar work of art focusing on the powerful muscles of Yankees legend Lou Gehrig in the locker room after a game, dated on the back from July 1927 which pre-dates the famous Conlon images by several months. This is the only example of this artistic masterpiece we have ever seen and it grades nearly perfectly with exceptional clarity. Truly "baseball as art!"
