The New York Yankees had to think they were getting a pretty good pitcher before the 1923 season when they traded for Herb Pennock, just how good nobody could have guessed. A young man with a ton of potential, Pennock had labored to a record of barely over .500 over ten seasons before 1923 but he would explode for the Yankees. His first season he would go 19-6 leading the league in win percentage and propelling the Yankees to their first World Series victory over the Giants! He never looked back and would become one of the best pitchers in baseball and land a place in Cooperstown. When this picture was taken, Pennock was hoping for the best with his new team. One of the earliest images of Herb in a Yankees uniform, this was taken by a photographer at Underwood and Underwood and the condition is essentially perfect. This is an important image from the Yankees first step toward complete domination!
