Extremely rare 1939 portrait photograph of young Sam Hughes who would quickly ascend to the top of Negro League baseball as one of its biggest stars and is still ranked among the best second basemen to ever play the game. Unfortunately for Hughes, he was born about 20 years too early to cross into the Major Leagues, but this image is a stunning reminder of his legend as it is the only photograph of him we have ever seen in any form! Condition and quality are both outstanding!
