1939 Photograph of recently retired baseball star Lou Gehrig as he appears on the golf course with a friend. Despite being weakened by disease and looking frail, Gehrig appears to be pulling a stump out of the ground on the golf course as a symbol to photographers that he is still strong and working to beat his illness. He would soon be confined to his bed and the disease would take his life before 1941 came to an end. A poignant image in great shape issued by the International News and with a full paper caption on the back as well.
