Incredible photo of one of the most important stories in NFL history, that for some reason has never been told. Jack Sanders was a football star at SMU when Uncle Sam called him up to service during WWII. He lost his left hand in the battle of Iwo Jima, and his career seemed over. But he was determined to fulfill his dream of playing at the next level, and here we see Jack in uniform for the Philadelphia Eagles as he was set to make his NFL debut against the Green Bay Packers. Issued by the International News, this is the only original image of Sanders we have ever seen in any form.
