Among the rarest of all personalities to find images of from significant teams are the trainers. An integral part of the team, but often tucked away in the clubhouses and out of the view for photographers, they were very rarely the subjects of images for publication in newspapers. Sometimes however, when the team was really good, an astute lens man would seek out these "behind the scenes heroes" to fill the back pages of the paper. Enter Harry Stephenson of the famed 1919 Chicago White Sox. They were a dominant team heading to the World Series in glorious fashion and a nameless photographer at NEA pulled out team trainer Stephenson to pose for a portrait. Seen here in full White Sox uniform and looking like he has better things to do with his time, the image of Stephenson is a tremendous and rare artifact from the most important World Series of all time! There are only two images of Harry Stephenson that we know of, with this being the only portrait. Condition is quite nice with a small chip on the left side. A unique image that sold for over $500 in our November 2014 auction.
