Jim Thorpe was one of the most important athletes of all time but because of his race and the time period he played, relatively few high quality images of him have survived. The offered photograph captures the greatest athlete of his generation at bat for the New York giants c. 1915. While the secondary caption on the back of the photo (added later) refers to Thorpe going to Cincinnati (which happened in 1917), this is a 1915 photograph based on the uniform. Perfect contrast and clarity make this a true gem, so detailed that under magnification you can see Thorpe's eyelashes! Photograph has crystal clarity and just some minimal handling wear from news-room use, this is quite possibly the nicest photograph of Thorpe on a Baseball Diamond in the World!
