One of the greatest baseball players of all time was Oscar Charleston. While never given the chance he deserved because of the color of his skin, he was ever bit the hitter of Ty Cobb and a better fielder for sure. The offered image is one of only a few known original images of Charleston ever to be offered publicly and this is a crystal clear silver gelatin batting photograph in uniform with the Almendares club of the Cuban Professional League. Stamped on the back by local photographer Jose Luis Lopez Gomez, this has a later file stamp and some editorial markings as well. A small rip on the far right side is the only flaw on an otherwise perfect piece of photography from one of the rarest and most important players to ever hit the field!
