Large vintage 1860's stereoview card of "Views of Springfield, Massachusetts". This one shows men in full uniform playing baseball and are surely engaged in what was still called "The Massachusetts Game". While the rest of the country was adopting "The New York Game", New England was a bit of a holdout and resisted, clinging to their traditions and their version of teh National Pastime. While their rivals would eventually win out, images of early baseball in the Boston area are extremely rare and sought after with this being one of the best we have seen. The backing and orange mount date this squarely to the early years of the game (1860's), it is one of the finest game action views we have ever seen in any form. Two albumen images in great condition, this is a new discovery that is sure to excite the hardcore baseball historian!
