Easily among the most interesting images we have ever offered is this 1934 Negro League photograph showing a batter at the plate and a catcher behind him. While the hitter is unidentified, the Catcher is named "Babe" Favors and he was the star of the "Van Dyke Colored House of David Team." We have never seen a more interesting image of a catcher as he is sitting in a rocking chair and wearing an amazing chest protector with a target on it. Photo is a beautiful image with wonderful clarity and contrast and overall in nice condition. A true rarity from a bygone era and almost certainly the only one ever developed and the only to have survived. A completely unique discovery from the West Coast, this photo sold for over $5500 in our auction a few years back!
