1950 Extremely early photograph of young superstar Willie Mays of the Trenton Giants as he is honored for his work with the team. Pictured in full uniform at the ballpark, a PA announcer addresses the crowd and awards Willie a new golf bag and shakes the youngsters hand. While he did play a bit in the Negro Leagues in 1948, images of him before he took the field in 1951 are almost non-existent with only a handful having ever hit the public. The offered photograph is completely original to 1950 and has handwritten notes on the back as well as a stamp from the photographer Frank Gennello of Trenton, New Jersey as well. It is almost certain that this is a unique survivor of this image and the condition is quite nice overall. An important pre-rookie card photograph of one of the greatest baseball players of all time!
