Large 1911 photograph of former pitching star in the league Earl Moore who was just hanging on through grit and determination by 1911 as he warmed up for the Philadelphia Phillies. Taken by a young photographer named Charles Conlon who had found some notoriety in the world of baseball photography, but was by no means famous, he stamped the back of this photo and added a special touch. While he "signed" many of his images "Conlon" on the corners, this is one of only a handful of images we have ever seen in which Conlon has completely autographed the back of a photo! He must have been proud of this one as he added "C.M. Conlon" ornately at the center of the reverse. A special photo in its own right, the autograph by the most famous photographer in baseball history is just frosting on the cake! Charles Conlon (1886-1945) was America's first sports photojournalist. In the primitive days of photography, he lugged his camera to the ballpark to capture the heroes of the game in their natural setting and paved the way for a new genre of photography. His work encompassed four decades and he became a true master of his craft. His images range from aging 19th century stars through the golden age of the game and most of the iconic baseball photographs of the early 20th century originate from the camera of Conlon. Due to the nature of his employment, images from Conlon are quite rare to find. We are proud to offer at this time over 400 images from the master himself, Charles Conlon many of which have never been offered to the public before!
