The photography of George Grantham Bain is some of the most sought after and coveted today by collectors. His crystal clarity and knack for capturing killer action shots leads collectors to seek out his photos and pay huge money for his work. While his actual prints can be found, his negatives were largely donated to the Library of Congress making survivors in the hobby almost impossible to find. The offered glass plate negative is the work of Bain and captures Johnson warming up at the ballpark from May 23, 1912. A small sticker with the date is added to the corner and the name is scratched into the negative so that the finished product would have his name already embedded into the photograph (which was commonplace for Bain). The offered specimen has some chipping to the emulsion only and no damage to the glass, and the image portion of Johnson is perfect. All things considered, this is one of the most important baseball photographic offerings we have ever produced and this Hall of Fame worthy relic will be the cornerstone of even the most advanced collection!
