Lou Gehrig was emerging as the greatest baseball player in the world in 1927. His prowess on the field and at bat were becoming the stuff of legend, but despite his abilities he was constantly overshadowed by his teammate Babe Ruth. While his career was just getting started, the career of noted photographer Louis Van Oeyen was winding down and as such it was a fantastic rarity that the two would collide on the field in Cleveland on May 26, 1927. A fine image in nice shape overall of Gehrig as he lunges for a throw in uniform, the image is stamped on the back by Louis Van Oeyen with the date and also some handwritten notes from Van Oeyen as well. Large and bold, this is an exciting new discovery that is being offered here publicly for the first time ever.
