The most iconic boxing painting (and possibly even the most well known sports painting in general) is the George Bellows masterpiece showing Luis Firpo knocking Jack Dempsey out of the ring in their 1923 bout. What is known about that fight is that it packed as much action as could be imagined into 2 quick rounds with Dempsey being knocked down twice (including out of the ring once) but Firpo was knocked down 9 times on his way to defeat. This action photograph from the first round shows Dempsey on the defense. Interesting image from one of the most famous fights of the 20th century with a cool cameo of James Corbett circled and identified by the photographer as well!
